OPEN LETTER TO ALL TENANTS OF HARBOUR CITY HOMES:
August 7, 2016
As Acting General Manager of Harbour City Homes, I first wish to thank you all for your patience relative to the transition we began, about one year ago. We have embarked on this journey with the ultimate goal of providing safe and affordable rental accommodations to those of low and moderate incomes. We have a lot more work to do in order to achieve this.
You sacrificed much in this transition. The Board and management of HCH thank you for your cooperation especially those who had to move.
Relocations have been accommodated and those affected by the move will continue to see improvements to their new environments and those who have been frustrated with sorely needed repairs, if not within their units, then the buildings they live in, will see gradual improvements.
These positive changes will happen, yet not over night.
In order to achieve these results we had to sell certain properties. While some of the sales were completed within established time frames others have been delayed. Because of this we have not been able to carry out needed repairs that we wanted to this year on the building stock we have retained.
We have developed a plan despite delays.
Over the last several months we have developed a plan to address long needed repairs. We have introduced several process improvements to ensure that once repairs have commenced on your building that the end product is delivered on time and within budget . Most importantly is the quality of the result. We will produce on a best effort basis a good quality result that will restore residents' pride in their home, dignity and faith in our organization.
We could not do this before as we simply had not the funds at hand.
Our initial focus will be to repair buildings with structural issues...leaking roofs...windows etc. This will be done in the summer and fall, before the snow flies. Then we will focus on interior repairs.
Where we have failed is in communicating our plans to you and improving your tenant experience. This is of the utmost importance. We will be providing updates through our website and welcome suggestions from our tenants on how we may serve you better.
The staff of HCH and our Board of Directors have our tenant's best interests in mind. It will take time to deliver on our plans. It has always been our mission to provide accommodations that residents would be proud to call home.
